Obituary for Joseph R. Marshall, Ex-Queens Resident "Funeral services for Joseph R. Marshall, a longtime resident of Long Island City, will be held at 11 A.M. tomorrow in Leominster, Mass. Burial will be at 11 A.M. Friday in ST. Michael's Cemetery in Jackson Heights. Mr. Marshall, 89, died suddenly Monday in the Leominster home of his daughter, Mrs. Alberta Hartrey. He had lived in Massachusetts for 10 years. Born in Westchester, Mr. Marshall came to Long Island City as a child in 1871 and lived there until 1948. For many years he was a varnish expert for Edward Smith and Company in Long Island City. In 1889 he joined the Long Island City Volunteer Department and eventually he became treasurer of the Long Island City Exempt Firemen's Association. Surviving him in addition to Mrs. Hartrey are five daughters, Helen, Mrs. Mary Fritts, Mrs. Margaret Bloomer, Mrs. Gertrude Burrill and Mrs. Viola Russo; a son, Joseph; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren." |
